Stool N7 was designed in 2017 as a part of the Product Design II course during my Bachelor’s degree. My colleague, André Trad, and I worked as a team throughout the design and production process. We continuously adapted the stool to meet the product’s requirements. Our target audience was young single adults who wanted to express their aesthetic and functional values through their furniture. We aimed to create a solid structure and well-planned construction product, inviting the user to store and bring printed magazines while maintaining the stool’s aesthetic appeal. We used straight lines with subtle material interactions to visually showcase these qualities. Metal tube structures stood out as exceptionally versatile due to their ability to acquire linear shapes while maintaining strength.
To construct the final prototype, we ordered a pulley of a specific size to curve the metal tubes and created a wooden form to curve the seat. Due to the machinery limitations at the University’s maker space, we could not conceive the metal structure there. However, we were able to execute the wooden seat entirely there. As our first furniture design, we are still proud of the result.
